Writing poetry on death row

By Gerald Marshall

I started writing poetry when I came to death row. Initially my poetry consisted of the heartache and pain that I carried throughout the years growing up. Then a friend sent me Pablo Neruda’s “Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair”. This book inspired me to write love poetry without being ashamed of it.

Today I have studied a variety of forms of poetry which always leaves my eager to express myself in this way. Here is a variety of my past and most recent poetry.
